Trauma Week Day 4 Physical Therapy

On the fourth day of Trauma Week, Dr. Boone, a physical therapist, was the guest speaker of the day and was able to fully assess our patient and diagnose a possible ACL tear that the other doctors might have missed. Dr. Boone was able to provide demonstrations as well as plenty of information to help us fully understand the seriousness of ACL injuries as well as others. She, along with her student, demonstrated the electrical stimulation (done on a student athlete) portion of psychical therapy along with the needle treatment (with parental consent). The needle treatment was done on her son (nobody was actually harmed during this process), a fellow student at the school, and she explained what she was doing when she did it. She went into slight detail on the recovery process and just how much physical therapy can help a patient post op. The correct way to walk on crutches, proper exercises to do, and where you need to be by the end of your physical therapy experience.
