HEENT Skills Lab

The lab for this week focused on the HEENT examination, which stands for head, ears, eyes, nose, and throat. When performing this examination you must always start visually inspecting the area before moving on to physically examining it. When inspecting each area it is important to look for deformities and other obvious issues, then you can move to feeling the area with your hands, for example, running fingers through hair, feeling the skin near the ears and face, and feeling for swollen or tender spots on the neck or throat. Once you have perfected this examination you no longer have to follow the head, ears, eyes, nose, and throat order; but go in an order that works best for you.

The rest of this week was spent on "work days." This class is the closest to a college type class I have, meaning that I am given all of the week's assignments on Monday and expected to turn them in by the time they are due on Friday. The set up of this class offers some preparation for college assignments and work loads. Overall, this week was productive in two ways, assignments were finished and labs were conducted.
